Every four years in the presidential election year, delegates are elected from the state parties. Some are elected as officers to represent their congressional districts for the party, some are elected as delegates to represent the state party at the national level, and others are elected to become part of the Electoral College.
All Republicans are welcome to attend and participate at these conventions. Rules the state party uses at these conventions must be sent to the Republican National Committee (RNC) the year prior to the election from each state Republican Party, and must not conflict with RNC rules.
This weekend, the Oregon Republican Party Central Committee will be having a meeting in Salem to decide on what rules they will be adopting for the 2016 Congressional District conventions.
